Bike Challenge Summer 2012 Course

Summer 2012 Registrations NOW CLOSED. To join our mailing list and be the first to know about future 10-week courses, contact us or enter your name in the 'Bike Challenge Updates' box to the right of this page.

The Bike Challenge Summer 2012 course runs for 10 weeks from Monday 23rd January, to the Graperide on the 24th March and Le Race on the 31st March.

All you need to take part in this 10-week course is the desire to get pedaling and learn something new. We'll take care of the rest, getting you feeling fitter and more motivated to achieve your cycling goals in no time - and we'll even make sure you have fun in the process!

There's a ton of information about the Bike Challenge Summer 2012 course on this page and on the FAQs section of this site, but do feel free to contact us if there's anything you can't find. Click here to read testimonials from previous course participants.

Packages

Training Guides

There are three different training guide levels to choose from: CompletionSport, and Racing. These are based on your training/racing goals, your fitness level, and the amount of cycling training you'd like to do every week.

Entering the Graperide and/or Le Race at the end of the Summer 2012 course is definitely not compulsory, although we do recommend having an event of some kind to set as your goal. If you're not intending to enter a race at all, simply choose your training guide level based on how seriously you want to train and how much time you have to fit this in.

Bunch Rides

There are three different bunch ride levels to choose from: Level 1Level 2, and Level 3... and a fourth Level that has been renamed (and revamped!) to 'The Bike Challenge Development Squad'.

If you're riding with Levels 1-3, you don't have to choose your level right away, and you can change part way through the course if you feel you've got it wrong. You must be registered for the full Summer 2012 course to come along to any of the Bike Challenge bunch rides.

The  bunch levels are based on your bunch riding experience, and the skills and techniques taught in each level will vary accordingly. Our aim is to help you learn and practice the skills and techniques required to ride, train and race safely and successfully. As such, the bunch rides are intended to be learning rides rather than training rides.

All rides are led by fully-trained instructors following the Bike Challenge Method™, developed in consultation with a team of highly-experienced cyclists and perfected over the last three years. Bike Challenge bunch rides are well organised, and set the industry standard for safety and considerate road use.

Level 1
This is for people who have never learnt to bunch ride, or have very little bunch riding experience. If you're not confident riding with one hand on the handlebars, are not sure what the different hand signals mean (or don't really know what hand signals we're talking about) or are a bit nervous at the thought of riding too close to other people, then this is the bunch for you.

Level 2
This is for people who know the basics about bunch riding and are pretty comfortable riding with other people, but perhaps just need a bit of practice getting everything going smoothly. If you only need the occasional reminder about bunch riding technique and etiquette, then this is the bunch for you.

Level 3
While the Level 3 bunch is still fun and friendly, things are starting to get a little more serious in this group. This bunch is for people who have already learnt to bunch ride, have had quite a bit of practice, and are ready to work on perfecting more subtle bike-riding skills and techniques. In this group, you should also be comfortable riding with good form in a bunch at higher speeds than in the other groups.
